For over 1000 years, Almshouses have been providing affordable social housing for local people in need in England. An Almshouse is a type of charitable housing designed to help those in need in a specific area. For almost 350 years Day’s and Atkinson’s Almshouses have been part of that tradition for the benefit of poor and marginalised residents of Edgware. This timeline shows how today’s charity has grown out of the generosity of our founders and how wise management has provided long term sustainability while moving the charity with the times to support local needs.
Today we remain true to those roots and that vision. We continue to provide housing for those in need in Edgware.
